How many megapixels are good enough for mobile phone camera ?

How many megapixels are considered to be good for a mobile phone camera to make a photos with good quality ?

The number of megapixels is an important camera attribute, but there are also other important attributes that have impact on photo quality. Megapixels represent the number of pixels in image. For example 12 MP camera is able to create an image with dimensions 4032 x 3024 pixels:

4032 x 3024 = 12192768 pixels

Is is common to have a phone camera with 24 MP or 48 MP. Some mobile phones even have cameras with more than 100 MP. On the other side the recent iPhone 12 have a 12 MP camera. To make a good quality photos the camera need to also have a good:

• Image sensor and lenses
• Aperture
• Image stabilisation
• Software features - to automatically apply the right settings and effects like focus, sharpening etc.
