Before going to wash cotton clothes in a hot water, you have to mind that:
- Cotton shrinks more at a higher temperature. So at 90 degrees, the clothes will shrink more than at 60 degrees.
- Cotton clothes shrink the most when washing them in a hot water for the first time. Then they shrink a bit after another 4-5 washings.
- Pure cotton shrinks more than mixed cotton. So the clothes made from 100% cotton will most probably shrink more than clothes made from 60% cotton and 40% synthetics.
- Pre-shrunk cotton shrinks approx. 3-5%. Non pre-shrunk-cotton can shrink even by 20%.
If you are washing cotton clothes and you are using the recommended temperature, then they should not shrink a lot.
