The difference between Parfum, Eau de parfum and Eau de toilette is in the concentration of aromatic compounds. They have a different perfume oil to alcohol and water ratio.

Parfums with higher concentration of aromatic compounds are more robust, intensive and long-lasting.

Parfum is the strongest fragrance type. It has a 15% - 40% concentration of perfume oils. Because of that it is more intensive and lasts longer, but usually is more expensive.

Eau de parfum has a 10% - 15% concentration of perfume oils. It is the best selling type of perfume.

Eau de toilette is a light version of parfum, with 5% - 10% concentration of perfume oils. Because of that it is suitable for work and everyday use.

There is also an Eau de cologne, which is even lighter than Eau de toilette. It contains 2% - 3% concentration of perfume oils.
Parfum is quite strong.

That is why many people prefer Eau de Parfum.
