Replace SATA 2 HDD with SATA 3 SSD - motherboard support

Hi, is it possible to replace HDD SATA 2 with SSD SATA 3 in laptop PC ? Will the SSD SATA 3 work even when the motherboard does not support SATA 3 ?

It is possible to replace HDD SATA 2 with SSD SATA 3, because the connector is compatible. I did it on my laptop and it works. When motherboard supports only SATA 2, the SSD SATA 3 should work at only SATA 2 speed, so you will not get the full SATA 3 experience. But before connecting the new SATA 3 drive to your PC, I recommend to check if the motherboard will be ok with it.
