Hi,
The main difference between JPEG and PNG is:
- JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group is a so called lossy compression format, commonly used by digital cameras. It is also common format for storing and transmitting photographic images.
- PNG - Portable Network Graphics is a so called lossless compression format, commonly used for drawings, icons, illustrations, text and other types of images that would not look good when highly compressed.
Because of that PNG is considered to be a high quality image format, keeping the image sharpness. The quality of the specific JPEG and PNG image depends also on compression level.
