Torn / damaged money accepted when paying at self checkout machine ?

Are torn or damaged money accepted when paying at self checkout machine ? Does the machine recognize damaged banknotes ?

Some self checkout machines accept banknotes that are partially torn. Money can be accepted also when there is a small piece missing. Self checkout machines check important security features of banknotes. So they can detect torn money, if one or more of security features are damaged.

When you have torn or damaged money, you can go to a commercial bank or national central bank. If the money are not damaged too much, they should exchange them.
