You have to check multiple things before you choose a hostel. Staying in hostel will most probably cost you much less than staying in hotel. Hostels are generally not so comfortable as hotels, but the value you can get for the money in hostel is often at least a good.

I don't recommend to stay in the cheapest hostels. Simply said, if the hostel is too cheap, there is a reason for that. But some hostels may be cheaper, because they are located far from a centre.

What is important to check when looking for a hostel:

  • Security - Does a hostel have a security camers ? Is there a lock on the room's door ? Are there lockers where you can store your items ? Is there a security guard ?
  • Equipment - What they provide and what you should bring ? Do they provide towels ? Check what is available for free. Some equipment may be available for a fee. Try to get information about the bed and bathroom. Some hostels may have a shorter beds.
  • Opening hours - Can you go in / out at any time ?
  • Check-in and Check-out times - In some hostels you can check-in and check-out during all day, but in other hostels it can be limited.
  • Quiet night hours - Does a hostel have a quiet night hours, so the guests should not disturb each other ?
  • Location - Is hostel located in the centre ? Is it located close to the place where you would like stay ?
  • Reviews - You can rely on reviews a bit, but please mind they might not describe the place at 100%. What is suitable for someone may not be suitable for some else.

Overall rating score can be useful.

But try to get as many information about the hostel as possible.
